  • Luca Pertegato (a.k.a. xo00)

Designer and Professor / Otolab / NABA Milan

Graphic designer, illustrator, painter and engraver, he has always loved electronic sounds and the synaesthetic relationship between sound, image and light. In 2001 he was co-founder of the audiovisual experimentation collective Otolab, where he began a research project in the field of Audiovisual Performance, participating in numerous live performances. Performance Audiovisual teacher at the Media Design School of NABA - Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti in Milan since 2005, he has participated and organized several seminars and workshops at institutions such as The Academy of Fine Arts of Brera, the Polytechnic School of Design of Milan, ISIA of Urbino, IED European Institute of Design in Milan, LABA in Brescia, and festivals dedicated to electronic arts as the MUV Festival in Florence, Bari Imaginaria Film Festival, CMMAS Centro Mexicano para la Música y las Artes sonoras of Morelia.

What is it about?

The workshop introduces students to the synesthetic audiovisual experimentation with DIY devices and possible applications in digital and performing arts.

What will we work on?

Once participants have built their own instrument (that they’ll bring home after the workshop), they’ll be able to experience it directly with the tools and light devices made available to create together an improvised jam session of sound and light.

How does it work?

The first part provides a presentation of Otolab and major projects related to audiovisual synesthesia. With the support of audiovisual materials an overview of the audiovisual performance projects and installations by international artists who focus their work on audiovisual synaesthesia and in particular on the relationship light-sound will be presented.

The second part of the workshop allows students to immediately experience with tools and devices made available. After a brief introduction and demonstration in the use of light-synth Lumanoise and light devices, students will be guided in the audiovisual experimentation to get the sounds and rhythm patterns that will form the texture of the live performance that will happen in a collective performance of lights and sounds.

↳ Courses will start once the minimum number of participants is achieved.
