Last Saturday we’ve been guests at #MDW16 with a co-design lab of – plural and sustainable – cultural events or activities, held in Palazzo Lanfranchi, a beautiful art museum in the historical city center.

After overtaking the mist from the gravine, the Sassi scenery unfolded in front of us: Matera is an amazing setting to work in, with its tiny roads and all of the building digged in the rock.

On thirty submissions, only the half of participants showed up for the workshop (that’s a shame, because the organizers had to close registration at the attainment of the maximum number of participants). No harm though, we’ll be more careful in the future to ensure that such situations won’t happen again.

Ideas, however, have been numerous: from courses of beer tasting and manufacturing to history and democracy workshops up to nutrition, theater and sculpture labs.

The workshop was held as follows:

After a presentation and an initial brainstorming, participants were given an hour (with integrated focaccia break) to fill out the online form on our website:

Afterwards, we analyzed two of the proposed ideas to develop and test their economic sustainability.

The first idea was about a laboratory-seminar to analyze a plant or material from a given territory, with phases of theory and research (on the field or not), alternatively. The ultimate goal would have been the production of a new design product inherent the analyzed object.

The second idea was aimed at children: it was a workshop on stop-motion animation technique, realized in order to taught to children an approach to manufacturing and digital art, thanks to the support and facilitation of a video-makers and two educators.

Ultimately, the workshop allowed us to test the canvas designed to transform the ideas of those who want to learn, teach or do research in educational activities to be carried out in (or with the support of) La Scuola Open Source.

We’ll be happy to continue the discussion with participants for the effective implementation and realization of the ideas analyzed together, or for anything else they’ll want to propose.

In addition to the workshop, still something noteworthly must be pointed out, like the faces and smiles:

those of Agnese and young Valerio, Emmanuele, Giulia (http://nonresume.me/), Andrea and Mariella from Casa Netural, Gabriella from Entropika, Constantino from WeMake, Fosca and the Mystery Things Museum team: Pedra, Adele, Stefano.

And the new friends: Fabio and Duilio DAF Digital Art Factory, Simone and Enrico of ITSvr, that made us travel in their virtual reality and, finally, all of the MDW staff that helped us: Sara MDW16 of staff, Giuseppe (videomaker), whom we thank.

So Matera let’s wait for us, we’ll be back soon!

Special thanks also to Silvia and Roberta for the unfailing and sweet support
